Titans

The two titans of speculative fiction today are

CHINA MIEVILLE  fantasy and   PETER WATTS scifi

I've been thinking a lot about the vampire The Brucolac from the Scar by Mieville and Watts' Jukka Sarasti. I've been wondering who would win in a fight. I was thinking it would be the Brucolac as he has a number of powers BUT I may have to rescind that- I think Jukka would win on the basis of being 10 steps ahead of the Brucolac. Maybe knowing where you opponent will be trumps having magical powers...

Still thinking about Blindsight and lamenting that no one I know has read it so I have no-one to talk to about it. I still haven't gotten an e-mail from Watts, it's only been a few days though, presumably he has a life. More so than I do. The first paragraph of the e-mail I sent him was spent trying to convince him I'm not a psycho stalker fan-girl. I'm not sure it worked...

Tommorrow is apparently world blog about the environment day- I will do something for it.

To find out how the world ends read the Rifters 'trilogy' by Peter Watts, although you can just read the first two- it's not evn the nanomicrobe that comes up from the ocean floor- it's the amount of energy it takes to maintain and progress our modern lifestyle's and the fact that it increases exponentially and there fore the system is doomed to fall apart no matter what we do. There will be a very reckoning very very soon.

Think on this- children aren't really the hope for the future- each child increases the consumption of energy and resources which is slowly killing us all. Children are nails in our coffins.
