che_gilsonMy computer was out of the shop a week, spazed out again, and was promptly returned to the shop where it performed PERFECTLY! Although I have to say that we have an old computer, 4-5 years old, and still running on Windows 98. It is probably time for an upgrade. I'm thinking of having some more memory put in it. While they're at it they can check over the hardware and make sure nothing is really breaking down. If there is money left over, there might be room for a brand new CD burner.
The bookstore is mear weeks away from closing. I have been buying my little heart out. I've made out like a bandit at least. I'm trying to buy all the books I'll read in a year. Man, the bookstore was the only reason I went to that shitty little mall in the first place. Now I'll have nowhere to go in this town. I'm running out of reasons to leave the house.

One of the things I got from the bookstore is the 2005 Writers' Market. I did exceptionally little with last year's version. I also have last year's Children's Market. It was a waste of about $50. Maybe this year I'll actually do something with it.
I'm also stuck for an ending on my not so sucky vampire story. I keep going back to the books I have about how to write, The Elements of Style (indispensible), Stein On Writing by Sol Stein, and a book I picked up about how to write mystery novels. My big weaknesses are sometimes too melodramatic and cliched, I don't write the 5 senses enough, and I slip into the passive voice a lot. I'm sure there's more but those are the biggies. I don't give characters their own voice enough. Punctually challenged. I give too much information and I don't trust my audience to understand subtlety. Errrrr.
