Oh, poor Erik (Eric?) he is swimming in the deep end. I like him though, for no good reason, he seems like a nice guy but self-taught is not going to cut it. But I like his determination and under-dog status. Sleeping in his truck? From the back woods of Minnesota or something? He certainly came a long way. But he needs to go to art school. I propose that some art school out there give Erik/Eric a scholorship :)  But in some ways not going to aert school isn't an excuse either. I mean read a book! They ahve libraries in Wisconson right? LOL!

Sometimes I wonder if I could make it on a show like that. But I know I couldn't. I'm WAY too commercial. Although I trained up in fine art believe it not. I used to oil paint. Not that I was any damn good at it. But I studied, and used to read art magazines and took art history and experimented. My favorite was etching because it's a very drawing intensive process and I liked pulling prints. But drawing, just plain old drawing has always held my attention most of all. No matter what my finished products look like the initial sketchs ALWAYS the strongest. Through the multiple iterations the work goes through, shrinking and sometime tracing the sketch to refine it, then tracing to ink it, then Photoshopping it to fix my aweful inking and coloring if I ever get the time- the work loses energy at every stage.

I wanted to be a REAL artist go to New York and do all that crap when I was kid, then I wanted to do comics and honestly, I never had the chops or the skillz to be a fine artist. My interst and personal taste has always been with commercial art, comics and illustration. And of course, I STILL don't have the chops to really succeed in any of those fields.

SOOO, novels, writing... yeah... all that good stuff. I have to create SOMETHING even if I failed miserabley at every other dream I ever had. I CAN do this. The question remains can I do it well enough to succeed... That time will tell.

And FYI- Tea Times Three is up to 122 handwritten pages. When I reach about 175 pages or so, maybe a few over, I chould be around 30,000 words. So , fifty some more pages before the halfway mark. My goal is 50,000 words or more.

And please- someone- vistit and or follow my writting blog! I have updated since the first post and will update again this week. http://chegilson.blogspot.com/
