Fandom meme
May. 21st, 2009 03:24 pmI love random geekery so here's a meme from Soraryu!
Comment to this entry and I'll pick three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
So my three fandoms are:
1. Hellsing
2. Minari Endou works (saw it on your profile. Didn't know you liked her!)
3. Garth Nix works
HELLSING
1: I saw a Helling AMV at a con and I was like- HOLY CRAP! That is the show for me! After that I bought the Hellsing manga in Japanese- it wasn't available in English at the time. I was thrilled when the series came out on DVD, bought them all, and then when it came out in English bought the manga up to vol. 6.
2:Last year some one at Senshi Con said that Integra dies and I was like :O!!! That kinda killed it. Top be honest I don't know if Integar dies or not and I'm not sure I want to. If someone tells me she lives to the end of the manga though I will be thrilled and complete my collection.
3. I LOVE the manga! At least all the ones I've read so far. The art is so wonderfully kinetic- it almost moves better on paper than it does in the anime! I am happy that Hellsing Ultimate came out though because I wanted to see the the Nazi's invade Britain. This doesn't really answer the question does it. OK favorite thing- the original manga.
4: I have done Hellsing fan art and a doujinshi. I was toying with cosplaying Integra too, and may yet do it before I'm too old.
5: I kinda wish Hellsing was more popular, but I think the series is over in Japan and the artist has started another series so I don't really see it gaining in poluarity. BUT HELLSING FANS RULE!
MINARI ENDOU
1: Again this is a manga I bought at Kinokuniya YEARS before the tide of translated manga was even a glimmer on the horizon. I liked the art since I couldn't read it. I bought Dazzle 1-5 or so, and one of them was a deluxe edition with a CD case of art 'cards' that were a 12 month calender so that was really cool!
2: I have nothing but love for her art! I only bought Dazzle 1 in english and I don't know if TP translated the entire run or not. I will buy her work though! I don't even care if she can write.
3: Hmm, can't really speak to this as most of what I have is in Japanese and I can't read it- I LOVE my little CD case calender though!
4: No. I haven't done anything with Dazzle...
5: I would like her to be popular so her manga will be be translated! Then I can read it!
GARTH NIX
1: I bought Sabriel at the bookstore. I was first attracted by the cover art- the OLD cover art by Dillon, and read the back of the book- NECROMANCY! Squee! Course the book turned out to be AMAZING so I started buying whatever else I could find by Garth Nix.
2: I'm pretty darn loyal to authors I like. I may not buy EVERYTHING they do but I doubt I'd ever quit buying his books
3: Ohhh.. tough one. I LOVE The Seventh Tower Beast aker game- me and everyone else! LOL! When Nix was writing TST I went to the website and all these kids were like- "I want a Beastmaker video game!!" I lOVE the library of the Clayr, I love Lyreal. I love the entire Abhornsen trilogy actually. It's one of those I wish I'd written.
4: No, but I did do an illustration for a review of Sabriel in a magazine one time. Closest to fanart I've gotten. His stuff would make cool cosplay though! Sadly I'm not much of a cosplayer...
5: DEAR GOD YES! Garth Nix DESERVES to be more popular than Harry Potter. He is far and away a better author than J.K. Rowling could ever dream of. I know I'll catch hell from my Harry Potter fan friends- sorry! I just think he's a better world builder- more imaginative- and more technichally skilled. His work is so fresh and so original it's just awesome!
