"Row after row of ugly, ugly children..."
Jan. 23rd, 2004 02:21 pmI just finished reading the worst piece of crap ever written!!! It's a children's book called Circque du Freak by Darren Shan. It's the most self-aggrandizing, self-centered, pile of shit! Virtually every other sentence is punctuated with an exclamation mark. And sentences like "It was eerie!" and "His breathe stank to high heaven!" is what passes for description. The whole thing was written in a passive voice. On top of that he knew nothing about spiders. They don't have jaws, they don't have lungs, they don't inhale, and he kept saying things about the tarantuala's belly. They have no real belly. All they have is an abdomen. And I'm sure they really throb. He has the spider eating things like pizza and again they have no jaws. They SUCK their food. On top of all this, he wrote himself in as the main character, like it's an autobiography. And to think this dumb-ass trash gets published by REAL publishers. And I can't. Bitter, bitter.
Oh, dear god. I have to quit swearing. I'm going to Disneyland and they don't allow profanity. Despite being moderately well educated, I still swear like a sailor. I don't know how to quit. I don't want to get thrown into Disney Jail. I have about a week and a half to curtail my swearing.
Well, I decided to make good on my new year's resolution to educate myself. I took the plunge and checked out Great Expectations. So far, so good. I'm on chapter 3 and Dickens is pretty good. Next I'm going to check out The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing. And then I'm going to check out White Noise by Don DeLillo. I was reading a book on sociology called The Twilight of American Culture and the author mentioned that book. I also want to read more sociology.
