Yaoi con report
Oct. 25th, 2006 09:07 amWhere should I begin? It was a great con as usual! I bought a stack of D. Greyman doujinshis. I'm not sure why... seemed like a good idea at the time. My Saionji costume wasn't as popular as I'd hoped... But it was fun anyway! And I think I joined a cosplay group! They needed a Saionji.
Manning the table was the same as usual. A bit monotonous but I was much more outgoing this yaer and I think I improved my sales because of it. The doujinshi did not do as well as I would have hoped butI learned a lot. I don't think anthologies are the way to go. I think books need a particular theme/fandom to do well. So I'm going to have to narrow focus. One woman I showed the book to laughed, put it down and called it badly drawn! BITCH! I'm sitting there for gods sake!
One lady got on my ass over the backpack charms. I used a rubber stamp with chinese calligraphy to add some texture to the sculpy beads I made. Before baking the beads I pressed them into the rubber stamp to make an impression of various characters. And she was all all "Do you know what they mean? It's a bad idea to use characters you don't know, you shouldn't do it" Look lady, I got the idea from a craft show! Lighten up! It's just so the beads don't look so plain.
The masquerade was weak this year and plagued by technical difficaulties, but there were a few good acts.
I didn't get out much, no panels or anything and I missed the BJD tea party which I'm really sad about but here is rthe grand total in sales!!! It is a personal best! $706. Of course that doesn't come close to turning an actual profit...sigh... I'm still hoping to crack $1,000 one of these days.
On the way back from con we stopped at a rest stop and pulling in right infront of us was a truck with NUCLEAR cargo! I'm not kidding! There was this one blue box thing strapped to the flatbed and big nuclear warning signs!! Turned out to be something the Navy ows but I don't know what it was. It was just really strange!
